The internal tribe of the MindStrong team is listed below. These are the learners and experimenters of what we’ve shared and challenged since the inception of the project. As a unit each individual has dedicated their lives to building a deeper understanding to human potential across many spectrums. From podcasts, coaching, training each member serves a strong purpose in the growth of our platform.
FOUNDER/ MINDSET & BREATHWORK COACH
Harvey is the founder of The MindStrong Project and a former Division 1 athlete at Central Michigan University. He finished his playing career at Minnesota State University, Mankato where he got his Masters Degree in Sport Performance. During his athletic career at MSU he also became a certified strength trainer with an interest in learning the biomechanics and physiology of the human body. Harvey specializes in training professional athletes in the MLB, NHL and NFL and has consulted at every level of College Athletics (Div. I,II,III, JUCO). He is also a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers. Harvey has conducted numerous seminars with business organizations and teams around the world optimizing human performance and shining light on the importance of ones breathing and mindset.
David Fischer is a co-founder of The MindStrong Project. His journey through life has been paved in ice as hockey is his first love and passion. In 2006 as a senior David was named the Associated Press’s Player of the year in high school hockey, First Team All-State and was also Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey, an award given to the best High School Hockey player in the state. In the summer of 2006 David was selected 20th overall in the first round of the NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, one of the most storied hockey clubs in the history of the sport. The next four years found David playing with the Golden Gophers while attending the University of Minnesota. He now spends his time playing in Austria’s top league. Playing professionally for over 8 years has allowed David to learn through experience. His passion is learning and helping others to achieve sustainable success in their own lives.
Nolan is a former professional baseball player whose collegiate career took place at Minnesota State University, Mankato where he was an All-American and teammate of Harvey Martin’s. His journey towards Human Performance was rooted in the pure curiosity of what separated the elite performers from the rest of the field. What were the seemingly minuscule edges one could pursue to enhance their performance that end up making a dramatic difference in one’s life. This led him on a path with The MindStrong Project that has been an incredibly journey of learning and discovery that he enjoys sharing with the world. He also like biking and the outdoors.
CULTURE & LEADERSHIP COACH
Steve’s enthusiasm and contagious energy make him a vital part of the MindStrong team. The culture he’s helped build at MASH enhances everybody who steps in the door, which is why we are proud to call Minnesota Mash the home of The MindStrong Project. In 2017 our Leadership Coach Steve McGuiggan was given one of the highest honors in youth sports when being named a Minnesota Chapter Coach of the Year by the Positive Coaching Alliance. This award was given to only 150 youth coaches throughout the country. From 2008-2011 Steve played for UIC, a Division 1 school in downtown Chicago. While a member of the Flames, Steve was named a Freshman All-American and was a 2X All-Horizon League member, 2X All-Tournament Team selection and he left UIC as their all-time leader in hits, triples and hit by pitches. He also ranks top 10 all time in doubles, stolen bases and runs scored.
MINDSET & PERFORMANCE COACH
Austin has a Master’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. During his time at Minnesota State Austin had the opportunity to create mental training workshops and train high school teams, as well as consult with high school and college individuals. Austin also served multiple roles with the Minnesota State University, Mankato baseball program for four seasons. In 2018 he became a volunteer assistant and held the positions of Bullpen Coach and Mental Performance Coach. He is our Mindset & Performance coach and runs the MindStrong Academy.
Tom has focused on providing our teams, our families, and our players an unprecedented experience. His dedication and willingness to grow daily is infectious to our entire human performance community. Tom’s vision of creating not just a training platform, but a place to truly inspire growth in all facets of life, continues to improve year over year under his guidance. Tom’s career blossomed after his successful playing career on the mound at the University of Minnesota. The Apple Valley, MN native was named the Friday night starter for the Gophers his sophomore season, and he never relinquished that role. Tom excelled both on and off the field by graduating from the University of Minnesota with a BS in exercise science and a minor in business from the Carlton School of Business. Before diving head first into changing lives through human performance, Tom spent time with the Florida Marlins and the Saint Paul Saints.
Brian is a professional football player and former Captain of the Houston Texans. He played collegiately at Northwestern University where he received a Master’s Degree and was a co-captain earning multiple All-Big Ten honors. His path to the NFL has been remarkable as he played in the AFL, UFL and CFL before being signed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. He made his NFL debut on October 4, 2015. Brian is also a level 1 CrossFit trainer and founder of Happy Hearts Lockers for the Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. Brian’s perseverance and work ethic is second to none and we are incredibly proud to have him be a Strength and Leadership Coach for The MindStrong Project.
