Since our first BBQ, we have had the privilege of supporting a dozen families facing unexpected hardships and extenuating circumstances. As we continue to grow and support more families, the need for Scholarship is ever apparent. Because of this, in 2019 we transitioned our Scholarship BBQ to a 501(c)3 non-profit called The M Foundation.
We all know families facing hardship. Most of us have been there. Whether it is a job transition, health complications or simply a string of bad luck, kids deserve the opportunity to strengthen character through hard work and build confidence through continued success and development in an athletic setting.
Many communities in the Twin Cities struggle with a lack of inclusive activities that bring peer groups of the same age together to build lasting relationships. In addition, these same communities have limited positive opportunities for kids to stay active and healthy during the summer when school is out of session. The JP4 Foundation is working to combat both issues with a strategic focus on inclusive athletic events and summer-long baseball camps.
The JP4 Foundation regularly sets up inclusive activities so athletes of all skills, development, and ability levels can bond over team sports. The goal of these activities is to grow the community. While most of these players may not interact with each other on a daily basis, these participative events help to instill a sense of camaraderie that quietly nurtures the organic growth of friendships and relationships.
Reaching kids through summer-long camps offered to communities in North Minneapolis, East Saint Paul and other baseball desert communities has become part of our DNA. These camps are designed to offer a weekly positive and healthy activity for kids to build community with one another. Each camp session is facilitated by paid coaches and offers access to healthy snacks and meals to ensure the hierarchy of need for each individual camper is met. Feedback from teachers, parents, guardians, and kids has been positive. We are convinced this approach is a cost effective and meaningful way to meet the needs of the community while enriching the lives of each camper.
The JP4 Foundation will continue to grow and positively impact even more families across the Twin Cities.
